Are we in the age of Digital & Social Bacteria – Share This!

While doing some research for some clients on Digital consumption habits and reading the Comscore report -  Digital Omnivores: How Tablets, Smartphones and Connected Devices are Changing U.S. Digital Media - I came across some interesting facts – an excellent report of which you can download it for free from Comscore.

For example a near 500 million Smartphones units shipped in 2011 – so what is significant about that – aside for the growth it was the tactile element of the touch screen that really intrigued me on many levels…

So are we in the age of Digital & Social Bacteria – Share This!

Human beings are they not extremely socialable and tactile animals using all our senses at our disposal to interact with the environment and of course our surrondings namely tablets, i-pads, smartphones – we like ‘sharing’ right?

So too my surprise while researching for a ‘client’ or maybe not to some quarters - that medical reports have now highlighted that ‘touch screens’ are crawling with viruses and bacteria owing to the warm environment of the screen.

In fact a recent study in the UK concluded that mobile phones carry 18 times more bacteria than a flush handle in a men’s room…

Caveat Emptor   - so next time you are out shopping to buy a new device or are sharing with your friends – think Social Bacteria and think Digital Hygiene and swab the device down with appropriate sanitation technology.

Hopefully you’ve caught on now – the client works in the ‘sanitation technology sector’

We would love to hear your views.
